Prevent Leaf Spot on your plants this Winter!

Leaf spots are a common disease that affect the foliage of plants noticed especially throughout the colder seasons. Most leaf spots are caused by Fungi, some others by bacteria. Once the disease is in the leaf it will continue to grow until the leaf tissue is destroyed, with spots varying in size from pinheads all the way to pots that can take up the entire leaf!

There is no known cure for leaf spot so your best bet to combat this disease is through maintenance foliar spraying. This will prevent the spores from germinating and spreading. If your are not preventatively spraying then spray a Physan 20 solution at the first sign that symptoms start appearing.

Treating Trees, Lawn & Turfgrass from Leaf Blights and Leaf Spots (Also applies for Flowering dogwood (cornus florida):

Mix 2 tablespoons of Physan 20 in 11.3 Litres of water. Spray 4 times – when flower buds begin to open; as soon as flower bracts have fallen; 4 weeks later; and after flower buds are well formed. If possible, spray just before rainy periods.

Treating Hawthorn (crataegus) - Leaf Blights:

Mix 2 tablespoons of Physan 20 in 11.3 Litres of water. After a very wet Spring, small reddish brown spots appear on the upper surfaces of leaves. When spots are numerous, leaves start dropping. Make 3 spray application: First, as soon as the leaves emerge from the buds; then when leaves are half grown; and again when fully grown.

Treating Begonias, ferns and Gesneria (corytholoma, isoloma, allopiectus, episcia & trichosporum) from Bud Rot, Gray Mold, Leaf Spots and Shoot Rot:

Mix 1 teaspoon of Physan 20 in 3.7 Litres of water. Use during all phases of culture. Remove all plants refuse or dead leaves. Garden clean up is essential in disease control. Spray Physan 20 solution before the buds open. Then spray again when blossom petals have fallen. Spray a third time when ¾ of the blossom petals have fallen. Spray again 2 weeks after petal fall.

Treating Cacti from Bacterial Leaf spot, Root Rot and Top Rot:

Mix 2 tablespoons of Physan20 in 11.3 Litres of water. For rotting of underground parts by fungi and bacterial leaf spot or top rot, sterilize seeds and disease-free cuttings by dipping in Physan 20 solution for 5 minutes before planting. Spray at 10 – 14 day intervals.
